Featured Designer ~ Andre Wells

Happy Monday!

Our featured designer this week is event designer, coordinator, industry inspiration and community service leader,

André Wells.

How did he get started?

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, André Wells started planning events in high school. During his time, Wells joined a team called "Team Board", which was a group of two or three people who worked to represent a department store within the "May Company". Wells and his group would work on community service projects, fashion shows and print store advertisements among other activities. While working among this team, Wells met a woman named "Jane Slater", who worked as the special events coordinator for the "May Company". Slater was Wells' beginning glimpse into the event coordinating industry.

What were some struggles and accomplishments?

After high school, Wells interned for JC Penney and Bloomingdales. Once he graduated from Hampton University, Wells retail experience granted him a position as a buyer and merchandiser for the "May Company". He worked in this position for a total of three years and disliked every moment.

After leaving his retail career, Wells took a meeting planner position at PBS. Soon after, Wells began working for a catering company and afterwards, an event planning business.

Where did he really take off?

Eleven years ago, André Wells decided to stop working for others and make his dream into a reality. He started his own event planning company, "Events by André Wells". Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Wells was able to build his business from a local firm to a nationally recognized company, planning weddings and events for many high profile clients and politicians.

What’s been happening today?

To date, André Wells and his firm has planned, designed and coordinated well over 4,000 events and counting! He's known as one of the top 35 event designers in America and catering to the luxury sect of the industry, has worked exclusively with clients such as the Walt Disney Company, Stevie Wonder, Patti Labelle, Smokey Robinson and most recently, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America.

Wells belongs to a number of professional organizations including being an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., serving at a national level. Wells also works to constantly give back to the communities he is involved in, spending devoted hours among inner city schools as both a mentor and motivational speaker.

For industry professionals, look forward to hearing this inspirational voice at the Coterie Retreat in December!
